Making Skincare Safe for EVERY Girl!

As the host of More Precious Than Rubies, I have the privilege of sharing the remarkable journeys of women shaping our modern world. In a recent episode, I sat down with Macy and Madison, the sister founders of Girlyish Skincare, a brand on a mission to make skincare safe, simple, and empowering, especially for young women starting their skincare journeys.

The Power of Sisterhood and Shared Passions

Before diving into their entrepreneurial journey, Macy and Madison shared what it means to work in tandem as sisters. With a seven-year age gap, their differences—both generational and in skill set—have become their strength. Macy, the creative force freshly out of Brigham Young University with an entrepreneurship degree, balances Madison’s expertise in health psychology and operations honed through her public health master's. Together, they are a dynamic duo proving that sisterhood and shared vision can be a powerful foundation for business.

Skincare Accessibility: A Solution for the Next Generation

"We wanted to make youth safe skincare that these girls would want to use and that's actually safe for them."

The spark for Girlyish Skincare came from observing a surge of young girls shopping for high-end, often harsh skincare marketed online. Both sisters recognized a critical gap: safe, age-appropriate products didn’t exist for the younger demographic. Their answer? Clean, gentle products and straightforward education to cut through the noise and fear tactics surrounding beauty. Madison’s transparency about never “caring” for skincare as a teen, and wishing she’d had the right tools sooner, set the tone for the brand’s mission: empowering girls early with healthy habits, not confusion or insecurity.

The Science Behind Simplicity

"Cleanser, moisturizer, SPF 30 sunscreen, that's all that dermatologists say anybody needs as the foundation of their skincare routine."

Amid a relentless wave of “must-have” products, Girlyish Skincare stands firm in its commitment: the basics are enough. Their core lineup: a gentle cleanser, moisturizer, and mineral SPF, reflects their consultation with cosmetic chemists (in the U.S. and Canada) and an earnest dedication to ingredient safety. They meticulously cross-referenced databases like the Environmental Working Group and SkinSafe to ensure every formula is effective and gentle, rejecting any anti-aging agents, hormone disruptors, or harsh additives. The result? Products both teens and their grandmothers enjoy, living proof that good skin can be simple at any age.

Creating Community and Confidence

"Our goal is just to create a space where girls can embrace their natural beauty, learn more about skincare, where we can educate and help them feel uplifted while doing that."

As a brand, Girlyish Skincare lives in the digital world. Their Instagram and TikTok channels are vibrant, approachable, and unapologetically youthful, representing real girls at every stage, not just airbrushed models. Through every video and post, Macy and Madison foster a community rooting for self-love and resilience, not just flawless skin. Their platforms even help those not ready to switch up their routine, offering free, accessible education.

Entrepreneurship, Challenges, and the Value of Mentorship

"There is a lot of underrepresentation, but it shouldn't stop us."

Navigating the crowded beauty industry as young, female founders has its hurdles, from self-doubt to the realities of raising capital in male-dominated rooms. Yet, Macy and Madison told me that these challenges have only strengthened their resolve. Leaning into networks of mentors has saved them from rookie mistakes and helped them trust their vision. Their advice to future female founders? Don’t hold back. There’s more than enough space for women at every table.

Final Thoughts: Why Your Worth Is More Than Skin Deep

As someone who struggled with acne myself, I know firsthand how skin issues can cripple self-esteem. But as Macy so powerfully stated, “We need to learn that we need to take care of our bodies and skin, but at some point we also have to just learn how to love ourselves.” Girlyish Skincare’s story is about just that: being informed, being kind to yourself, and remembering that beauty is never just skin deep.
